BOOK THIS EXPERIENCEDevelop confidence in the wilderness with our immersive Okanagan Survival Workshop. This hands-on experience takes place in a secluded natural area that showcases the diverse ecosystems of the Okanagan Valley. Your instructors are certified wilderness survival experts with extensive backcountry experience who will teach you practical skills that could prove invaluable during outdoor adventures.
The workshop begins with an introduction to the survival mindset—the psychological approach that's crucial when facing challenging situations in the wild. Your instructors will share real-world scenarios and the decision-making processes that lead to successful outcomes. From there, you'll dive into hands-on skills training, starting with fire-making techniques using both modern and primitive methods. Learn to create fire using matches, ferrocerium rods, friction methods, and natural materials found in the Okanagan environment.
Next, master the art of emergency shelter construction using natural materials and minimal equipment. Your instructors will demonstrate various shelter designs suited to different conditions, teaching you to assess terrain, identify optimal locations, and efficiently construct weatherproof refuges. You'll work in small teams to build your own shelter, receiving guidance and feedback throughout the process.
The workshop also covers wild food identification, teaching you to recognize edible plants, berries, and fungi native to the Okanagan region. Learn safe foraging practices, including how to distinguish edible species from toxic look-alikes. Additional skills covered include water sourcing and purification techniques, basic navigation without electronic devices, and creating emergency signaling systems.
Throughout the day, your instructors will weave in knowledge about the local ecosystem, indigenous uses of plants, and low-impact wilderness ethics. The experience concludes with a scenario-based challenge that allows you to apply your newly acquired skills in a simulated survival situation. This workshop provides not just practical outdoor skills but also a deeper connection to the natural environment and increased confidence for future wilderness adventures.
